greetings
Got a phone call the other night asking if i would go out lamping foxes, so i went, on the way to my friends house i put on the lamp and seen two foxes, one was not on our ground.
When i arrived i had to wait a while for my friend to finish eating but we eventually got underway, we done the rounds and seen nothing then on the way back we spotted something in the field that i had seen a fox in earlier, his lamp is pathetic but putting the binos on it we could clearly see it was a fox stretched out and not showing its eyes, this fox knew the game.
I waited and waited until he got to his feet, then the lamp was so bad at a hundred yards i could barley make him out through my friends scope, but it eventually came to the edge of the beam and could see enough to send the bullet into its shoulder job done.
My friend insists on making all his own gear and using it, i had a perfectly good lamp in my bag behind his seat but would he use no he struggled on, never mind all is well that ends well.
THEN.
The chicken and goose eating fox.
I went up to the killing fields yesterday morning and put on the chicken distress2 on the fox pro, i played that for over two hours, i was away up the road, the farmer was near the chicken run.
I played and played but i seen nothing i thought the fox was coming down the river from my direction and i would nail him on the river bank 150 yds away with the hornet.
Around 1pm just after i had eaten a sandwich i hears boooom from the farmer then silence, oh well that's the job done, then the phone rings and an excited voice says he came in from the top and i think i MISSED him.
I asked what are you shooting? reply 243 with v max
what range was he? reply under a hundred yards.
where did you aim for? frontal body shot.
Told him believe me sir you have missed, that bullet would of turned him inside out if you had hit him.
Now this fox is the luckiest animal still alive the farmer has walked out and had no gun twice, then now he goes and misses him. I f i had been a lesser man i would give up, but i am not and i will bring that chicken killing verminous creature to book myself, but how do you ask the man that owns the ground to stay in the house and watch TV, he has made this job real difficult. lol
Once this rain clears i will be out with the lamp to have another go, one cannot lamp in rain it just reflects back and we see nothing.
Known this fox that is exactly when he will decide to raid again, lol
regards
Billy
