Went out this morning with my buddy Mike. This one came in to his gun about 1 minute after we turned on the caller.

Neither one of us has a varmint gun, it's just something we do to fill in between deer and turkey season. Most places we go we're shooting over small fields surrounded by thick brush and woods, so 50-100 yds is the norm, with 20-30 yds not uncommon. We usually hunt with three people, but one couldn't make it. We set the caller and decoy in the open and put the shooters 50yds downwind. We hunted a 120 acre farm at first light. First set-up in a 10 acre corn stubble brought nothing. Second set-up I was in a finger of timber overlooking a 20 acre corn stubble, sun at my back, wind from the south, Mike was 50 yds. downwind from me in the thick woods. I set up the the "Quiver Critter" decoy (imitates a dying rabbit) 40 yds out in the stubble. Hit the dying cottontail call and this one came into Mike in less than a minute. Shot with a slug at 40 yds. It was a young male, about 30 lbs. He was in better shape than he looks, the scruffy appearance was due to a coat full of burrs.

Right on!
I went out yesterday morning and didn't call anything in but a bunch of crows and a huge redtailed hawk. I kept an eye on the hawk!! I've had'm come in on me before and that one would've hurt!

huxbux, thanks for the infor. Makes me feel a bit better. Got invite to Yote hunt on some private farm land. Was feeling kinda bad that I didn't have a Yote Gun (kinda went overboard on the Shotgun and M/L this year).
