Ok I got drawn for a Reserve Pheasant hunt. First time in I really could not tell you, never been drawn for one of these. It is an area to hunt wild pheasants. No hens. So do not know anything about it, it is at Falwell area in Benton County. Anyone know anything about this place. My hunt is on the 21 st of November, so do not know anything. Is there a lot of wild pheasants there? Any help would be great. Thanks, Brian

I sure wish I knew how it worked. I've long wanted to do it, but don't think I got it this year either. I wouldn't have any dogs or anyone to go with, so it's really best someone else get drawn other than me.
Congratulations!
Post photos, and let us know how it works.

Yes, these are wild pheasants no hens. You got picked kind of late in my opinion but I'm no expert I always like having the first day when the birds are stupid. If you have accsess to a good upland bird dog I'd either take that dog or ask it's owner if they want to go too. I've been drawn once and my father's been drawn once. First trip was kind of warm and we all shot 2 second trip was cold and we only shot one quail and one pheasant. I feel that both spots were PRIME habitat and managed perfectly. As I remember you have a bad back, pack a light load you'll be walking plenty, we usually found birds in the knarlyest thickest stuff you can find on the property, wear either chapps or buy some upland pants. if you can set up a blocker on some of the areas that have rows of standing corn or brush you should get bird's there too the last time we went we only had my dad and I, if we'd had a third it'd be better the birds were running arround us and not flushing, make sure you have all of your licenses and "credentials" on you and in the truck where they should be you will most likely be checked by the game warden, I've never had a bad experiance with them. This is a great hunt but it is still a hunt not a put and take so be ready to work at it just as you would on an average duck hunting day back home, if you do things right, put your work in and enjoy the hunt for what it is you'll get alot out of it. If you go into it thinking the birds are everywhere and you'll be done by noon you'll be disapointed. Have fun!

DUCKMASTER,What xmax says is spot on. About 12 years ago my friend was drawn for one, he took his son and I as his party of 3, he was drawn for 2 properties that were about 3 miles apart. The one property was about 70 acres of prairie grass with several very small food plots on that property, the birds were holding tight along the bordering property which was picked corn. The second property was about 40 acres again planted to prairie grass and small food plots this field was the only cover for over a half mile in every direction everything around this field was plowed earth. We got our limits but be had to work for them and we were aided by 2 labs. I have been submitting for about 12 years and finally the dart hit my name this year,I have been drawn for a property on opening day. Ina addition to the pheasants we saw plenty of turkey on the one property and we kicked up several dozen deer.

Well, I have been putting in for as long as I can remember. I do have a bad back. 2 years ago my family pitched in and bought me a 28 gauge over and under , I know a lot think that this may be to small, but I will take both guns. My 28 gauge weighs less than 5 lbs. used it on put and take hunts and done pretty good with it, easy to carry. But being wild pheasants, I may go with a 12. Yes, I will have to find someone with a dog to go with me there.

I have had the opportunity to hunt one of these hunts the past two yrs. Numbers per local said numbers eere really down last year. Awesome hunts and both were late in the season. By that point stealth was a priority as and birds extremely skittish. Like the others have said. Hunt the thickest stuff. That is where most will be. Saw plenty each time and have two mounted from pine creek. Just be prepared to cover ground or take a youth that loved to walk.

I was drawn a couple of years ago, but not drawn again this year. Three of us hunted the Geswein area in southern Benton County. Walked the entire 80 acres for 3+ hours and finally flushed a couple roosters at the same time maybe 75-100 yds from our truck. One of us hit one but it must have burrowed under cover, we never did find it. We may have been just pushing the birds around all day. I don't know if I would consider hunting these areas without dogs again. Just too hard to get birds to flush and nearly impossible to recover without dogs unless the bird drops graveyard dead. Lots of signs of birds in the area. Lots of deer sign and kicked up several deer in the morning including a nice buck. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and have a good time! Good luck!

Son got drawn for the youth hunt in Benton Cty on Nov 7. Two adults can hunt with the youth. A friend lined us up with someone local that has a good dog and actually hunted one of the properties we get to hunt before the state got it.

After 25+ years of putting in for a hunt with no luck I found this year would be no different. Better luck next year.

It inly made me hurt mire. Complete turn around now though, it was a bad year. Hurt myself November 10th 2014. Had months of pt, more drugs than a hippy commune, glowing from xrays and more steroids than Mark McGuire. Finally found the pain generator and fixed the pain. I am feeling wonderful now but need to go back to work so that I don't reinjure myself doing something stupid.

Got drawn for the reserve pheasant hunt in white county anybody ever hunt this aere west of Reynolds. Hunted it on opening day with my son and grandson + a lab. It was a very warm day 67+ clear skies with a nice west wind. We worked it hard but the results were poor,we kicked up 2 covey of quail,2 hen pheasants and 2 roosters all were out of range except for one quail that we bagged. We saw several rabbits however the cover was so thick you only saw then for a flash of a moment. The north field is where we saw all the above we didn't kick up anything in the south section. FWI local farmer stopped to talk and said it was a poor year for pheasant numbers..........he was right. Please let me know how your hunt went.
