I'm new here and was wondering has anyone hunted on Crooked Creek Marsh on Lake Monroe?

I tried a couple years back and got last pick on a rare morning draw day before deer season or opening day of deer...heck I can't remember. Tried to forget that day, it sucked. I think they have like 20 or 30 spots and really the first 10 are about the only good ones. This is what the guys I went with told me. You have to have 3 people in your party to get in the draw. Anything less and you are bumped to end of the line.
Some guys really really like it. I can't stand waiting in line with a bunch of people and rely on luck to have a decent hunting spot. When I used to bird hunt a lot, good hunts were part luck but mainly lots of hard work. Scout, scout scout...get permission and scout some more. Almost the only way I can stomach to go to the public spots for draw hunts is if I know I have a spot. Just my thoughts on it

I think your talking about Stillwater/Northfork marsh. I've hunted it before but I'm no fan of draw hunts. I grew up in upstate NY where draw hunts don't exist. Crooked Creek is between Stillwater and Middlefork waterfowl resting areas. I've mapped it on google earth and it looks promising, I'm going to have to check it out this weekend if I get the time. I normally hunt out at Fairfax but the last 2 years the area hasn't been that good

Hunt stillwater marsh a lot and crooked creek some. Both are hit and miss. There generally are about 7 to 10 good spots in marsh but that includes some of the outlying areas. Scouting and cover are key. This year due to the high water it wasn't planted and doesn't look promising. Draw hunts are OK as most get drawn and you generally get a shot or two from all binds but reserved hunts generally are really tough to get any leftover spots. Most just pick spot from kill board but that doesn't generally tell the true potential.

I went out to Crooked Creek this weekend with my two weims to looked around. It didn't look that bad I saw a few dozen geese and a couple of dozen ducks. I didn't really walk the banks of the lake due to my dogs chasing rabbits and treeing squirrels.
