I have a TC Encore 50cal. I'm looking for a good load for lesser recoil but effective killing power. I use 3/50 grain Pyrodex pellets for my self but want to let my son's shoot it. Any are appreciated. Thanks

100gr should be plenty, no 200yrdshots though. You might also look at the 45gr pre-measured loads too. If ya got a good recoil pad the 150gr load shouldn't be much any way.

I used to shoot 90 grains out of a black diamond 50 cal. It was low recoil, very accurate.

All I ever used was 2 x 50g pellets with cheap TC sabots in an Omega that I had. I killed more deer than I can remember with that gun.

How old is your son? My 6 year old shot 75 gr pyrodex last season with a 260 gr bullet with no problem out to 50 yds.

Start with one pellet and short ranges and let him work up from there. I started my daughter with 30 grain of loose powder and 35 yards max range. She worked herself up to 90 grains and 150 yards.

The 45-70 shot a 405 grain bullet over about 65-70 grains of black powder. Most people would not hesitate to hunt elk, moose or buffalo with one. Try 70 grains loose with a .45 round ball in a sabot. That should be good to about 100 yards and not kick much.

Take STEVEIN's advise... he knows what he's talking about. The weight of the bullet is a HUGE contributing factor to recoil energy. Keep the slug light and use a reasonable amount of powder as stevein recommends and the youngster will have a load he will be happy with. JMHO. BOB

I used to shoot 90 grains out of a black diamond 50 cal. It was low recoil, very accurate. That's the load I use in my T/C Black Diamond .50 caliber. Ninety grains of Triple #7 (FFG) and a 250 grain .451" Bullet.

Try 70 grains loose with a .45 round ball in a sabot. That should be good to about 100 yards and not kick much. A buddy of mine use to do this very thing. I personally have seen the kid shoot a buck at 80 yards with the round ball and blow right thru the deer. Great Combo for the youngsters!
