to hunt yotes with. A good friend has offered to take me yote hunting. I mainly want to take a good specimen to get a rug mount done. I would really prefer not to buy a gun just to hunt yotes with at this point, maybe after doing it I will be hooked and them compelled to buy a good rifle. What I currently have in the inventory to choose from is a .22 mag, 20 ga slug gun, 50 cal muzzleloader, 30-30 rifle or 30-06 rifle. I don't want to trash the pelt so I am leaning towards the .22 mag but is that going to be enough? Also suppose the 30-06 would be ok if I got a broadside shot thru the ribs? Your thoughts please.

I'd leave the '06 in the safe. The .22 mag will do the job well, given the yote is in range. One of my dad's buddies was a very successful yote hunter and carried nothing more than a 12 gauge with larger shot (forget the exact size, but I think he used 4 shot quite a bit).

The .22 mag is fine. Shoot it at a decent distance to get comfortable with it.
I once dropped a yote with one at ~120 yards. Aim for the head, not a body/vital shot.

.22 mag is the way to go, 06' will do the job but not if you want to do a mount on in..good luck

It kind of depends on how far you plan on shooting. For close up the 20 ga with 000 buck shot, medium range the .22 mag should be good for 125 yards or less, longer range the 30-06 using Remington accelerators which are .22 varmint bullets in a plastic sabot in the 30-06 case and they go real fast. I assume you have a shot barrel for the 20 ga and make sure you use a full choke. h.h.

I agree, the .22 mag would be my choice as well
all the other will open the hide the size of a softball or worse

.22 mag it is then, thanks for the help fellas! I was kinda leanin that way too. Got it out of the safe last nite and dusted it off. Going to try and get out this w-end for some target practice to reaquaint myself with the gun as it has been quite a long time since we have been out together.
