Went coyote calling behind the house at about 4:00 today and couldn't believe my eyes at about 5:00. A bobcat stalked its way to my position!!! I spotted him about 60 yards out and watched him make a SLOW stalk to 15 yards out where he sat on a moss covered log. I thought I had seen one here a couple of years ago, but, couldn't swear it...now I CAN swear it! AWESOME sight and I feel priveleged just to have seen it. A side note is the fact that while I could easily hear a squirrel hopping over 50 yards away this evening, I could NOT hear the cat as he made his way toward me on the same dry leaves. Talk about stalking machines...they are very stealthy to say the least! Thought would share this. Hoosier.

Congrats on the sighting hoosier! I've got a feeling it'll be a few years before I see any around here, but I'm hopefull. I know there's some in Montgomery County near Shades, and if you've got them in Owen, I'm sandwiched in between! Awesome........post this on the EHD forum where the guy said there are none in IN! I just posted a response to you in that forum. Don't want to get off-topic here, but I don't think *anyone* that has responded to that thread has said there are none in the state.

Sweet. I am waiting to call one in where I hunt. I know there are a few around 'cause I have heard their screams at night.

I called in my first Indiana bobcat last week. He didn't creep in... he flat boogied across 300 yards of hayfield to stand less than 40 yards from us for a few minutes. Big difference in daytime and nighttime behavior I guess.

Bbcats eeverywhere there is good woodland and swamp cover mix in the state. I am currently mntg. one for the Pigeon River FWA guys and we usualy have 1 or 2 hit by cars in this part of the state every year. DNR keeps hush-hush as they are such a desired target for poaching. I mean someone even shot an Eagle recently and it was found on Pigeon River FWA. How many idiots would try to get a 'cat if they were told that there are so many.

You are right. One guy in SE Indiana turned himself in last year only because the cat he shot had a radio collar on it. He didn't know it wasn't working anymore.

I was thinking switzerland Co, but wasn't sure. Is that Crawford Co.? Some where along the Ohio River counties anyways. Besides down there it ain't western Indiana unless you are in Evansville!!!!

Do you think they'll ever have a bobcat season? I'd love to have one mounted I'm not sure how I'd have it done though? there's always the "on the hounches reaching for a quail" mount or the walking broad side with the head turned at you but I guess I'll either have to go to KY or wait for who knows how long for a season here. I've only seen one it was in south west indiana where I hunt along a swamp surrounded by a hard wood forrest. Awsome looking animal!

What I think is funny is that 2 years ago... the Indiana DNR said bobcats did not exist in Indiana...LOL

Josh, no footage on the cat. Cameraman didn't go along that night... called up half a dozen fox and the cat in his absense.
JimD, the IDNR has been rehabilitating/introducing/counting and tracking bobcats in Indiana for over 10 years. They've never denied that to my knowledge.
