I was reading the reports from the most northerly states. Most said the migration is starting to trickle down. A lot of them had opening weekend this Saturday. I'm getting anxious lol

Most opening days the gun fire across the road wakes me but not this year. My sons group did manage 42 ducks however.

I have learned to not entirely trust these reports. I have seen kids from my area post on this site that we are covered up in ducks when just the opposite is the case.

It's like deer hunting. You won't kill anything unless you go outside. I've come to learn that migratory birds seem to do a lot of this migratin thing. One day may be horrible and then the next day you're making it rain feathers.

I don't want to be the dummy who shoots a wood duck during teal season, lol. ;-)

I have had to look up wood duck, they are pretty things, seemingly there are odd ones are in Cornwall and Scotland and there is a feral population in Dublin Ireland. Are you saying you have different seasons for different ducks? Over here if ducks are in season then ducks are in season regardless what they call themselves, lol. Lot easier idea. I'm probably going to the pond on Saturday night to see if I have a flight coming in. Last week I counted forty five in, but the two folk I invited to shoot could not come last weekend so I left them Until this week, hope I have not lost them lol. All mallard, Regards Billy

Oh yes billy. We have an early season for canada geese and teal but nothing else, then a regular season for waterfowl, a late goose season and a conservation season for snow geese. Depending on the year they will change limits of how many of each waterfowl species you are allowed per day for example I can take 4 mallards but no more than 2 can be hens. Then my other 2 ducks must be something else like wood duck (no more than 3 total) black duck (only 1) or teal (6 total) but no more than any combination of 6 ducks total.
Other states have different bag limits.
Do you guys have bag limits for your waterfowl?

greetings chubwub This may suprise you but there is no bag limits for anything over here waterfowl deer or any other thing in season. We set our own bag limits, for instance on saturday night there will be two guns and myself with the dog at the pond, they will be told they can take six duck, thats two each for the oven, enough for any oven in my opinion. lol some species such as canada geeses have no close season and can be shot all year round, likewise with wild boar that are appearing in the uk. foxes have no season. Grey squirrels are another that comes to mind, no season, Red squirrels are protected all the time. Barnacle geeses have year round protection, as do (unfortunatley) goosanders, herons are protected, all birds of prey are protected. I think it is a lot simpler game rules here but horrendous firearms rules. I would invite you over to shoot tomorrow night but it is rather a long way to come for two duck, go on then i will throw a buck roe deer in as well. lol Oh we feed the inland ponds(baiting i suppose) its the way us brits do it. regards straight barrels Billy

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hCTUmMnO40You may of seen this already chubwub but this is the scottish borders on geese, its were i live. he is probably thirty miles from me, thats all. notice in scotland they can use lead because they are not shooting over water, here in england we have to use steel for all waterfowl regardless of where they are so four miles up the road i can shoot waterfowl with lead and a roe deer with a 222 in my garden it has to be steel and for deer a 243, lol thats the way it is though regards Billy

Looks like a fun place to goose hunt! The fangs on the little bitty deer are terrifying!
I would love to vacation over there so if I do can I go goose hunting with you?
