I started coon hunting two years ago and "fell in love." i like it better than deer hunting (which i do alot) it keeps me out of trouble when most people my age are out getting introuble or screwing up their lifes.. looking for any tips and tricks that im not aware of.. i dont use dogs, dont see the point in it.

I`m working on getting a pup.I went out Thurs in Morgan county but there are alot of leaves on the trees still for a guy with no dogs.I coon hunted alot when I was younger with dogs and I`m going to get back doing it pretty heavy.

I live in monticello, but my grandparents live in monroe, the reason i dont use dogs is because i dont know how to train one and would not know how to use them.

I would say a good dog would multiply your enjoyment about 10 fold. There is nothing like a good tree dog. I would reccommend finding someone in your area who has dogs and seeing if you could go with them one night. Most coon hunters would be more than happy to take someone wanting to learn more about the sport. I would also reccommend not starting with a pup. Training takes lots of hours in the woods and you could go through a whole lot of pups before you get a good one. Let me know if you have any more questions. I know lots of hunters across the state and could probably set you up with someone that would be willing to take you one night.
