Good luck to those hunting tomorrow. I won't be in the swamp until this weekend for the start of early teal.

I'm still grounded. I'll be trying to pick off my first squirrel from my backyard.

I love those FB posts where the husband fears his wife will sell the hunting equipment for what he told her he paid for it. No, my daughter has had my Tahoe for a month now. Her wheel fell off and I'm waiting for her boyfriend to fix some things. He's a good guy, but he's not the one without a vehicle.

It's fun and proper to call and decoy but sometimes you just can't pass up a good sneak right before daylight on a roosting flock and giving them hell when the sun rises.

Please tell me you didn't blast them as they were sitting on the pond.

They probably didn't stay on the pond very long after the first shot.

Doesn't matter much when there's only 4. Public marsh anyway, that spot is not going to remain a roosting area for long since they were sitting right next to the permanent blind we were going to hunt.
And of course I only shot 1 on the water and the second as he got up just to help get them to escape over to my fiance so he could drop the rest. I'm helpful like that plus it's sinful to waste ammo on spoilers. Also he bet me that I couldn't sneak up on them without getting them up.
My fiance says it's okay to kill birds on the roost as long as none leave. He also says you don't want to risk hurting them by accidentally throwing a decoy on them as you are setting up.
After we packed up for the day we left a note and a map for the geese to let them know that this was the hunting and feeding area and that the proper waterfowl resting area was clearly marked and located half a mile upstream.
Come on now guys it's not like we killed a lion or anything. I swear none of our geese were wearing collars. Please don't write angry messages on my Twitter account.

I'd like to get a collared goose!
About 300 geese were in the field behind my parents place. I was planning on going out in the morning, and 3 young guys stopped by asking if they could hunt. So, there will be 4 of us out there tomorrow morning. The geese were there around 8 am, and were still in the alfalfa when it got dark out. Hope they fly to the lake to sleep and come back in the am.

Now that sounds fun :-) I used to have a few decent early season spots and when it was slow I could bang iut doves or pigeons. It's been a long timeing time since a good field goose hunt

We had a few birds come in, and one flock of about 50. Before we could get those birds picked up, the main flock tried to come in. They saw the dead birds down on the ground and wouldn't get close enough to shoot. So, after waiting for 45 minutes we decided to pick up. Wouldn't you know it, a group of about 20 decided to head our way. With the ATV and trailer there in the spread, there was no way they were coming in either.
We ended up with 11 birds tho.
