I wouldn't know a teal if I saw one, but I'd sure like to shoot one.

Hey, that shouldn't be too hard to differentiate. Thanks!
I don't think I've ever seen them before.
So when the season opens, this is the only duck on the shoot list?

Altho I don't suggest shooting greenwings as a novice hunter. They look to much like wood ducks in flight. As a matter of fact the first pics is labeled as bluewing teal in flight but are actually greenwings. They are easy to pick out when directly over you. The black bar in front of the bright white patch on their under wing is distinct. The light blue on the top front of the bluewings wing we refer to as head lights. lol

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe Blue Wing Teal drakes have the white crescent on their cheeks like those in the photo.

Any idea when the wood ducks are in season? I was thinking that they leave early too.

They will be in season when the Federal government posts that season probably we will know sometime in the next few weeks.

When the bluewings get here, the drakes are not colored yet. They look like hens. In the spring they do have powder blue heads and a white crescent. I have never shot a fully plummed drake, not even during the regular duck season. Only teal can be shot in Indiana during the early season. Kentucky and Tennessee have early seasons for Wood Ducks.
