Got my $25.00 federal duck stamp today along with my hip card #.
You need to have your hunting license in order to apply for your hip # and be aware the computer generated voice is difficult to understand.

Over achievers. I wait till I have to frantically drive all over southern indiana to find a stamp.
Probably won't even buy my tag this year unless my pain issues clear up enough. Have hard time in the morning. This will be first season in about 20 if I don't get out. It may be good for me to build the desire back I have been losing interest in duck goose hunting over the past couple seasons....

Everybody is loosing interest in waterfowl hunting what with the lack of migration in our area. If it wasn't for the fact that I don't have to leave my place to do a little bit of hunting I too would have probably given up a long time ago.

If it wasn't for the fact that I don't have to leave my place to do a little bit of hunting I too would have probably given up a long time ago. I'm really curious about people losing interest. I do have a couple friends who have hunted and trapped most of their lives. However, a couple of them rarely hunt at all now. I think I can see how someone would get tired of sitting in the woods for weeks on end hunting deer and not seeing anything would think that they had better things to do. I was wondering if waterfowl hunting is more work, and the harvest potential isn't worth the effort anymore. These are busy guys that I'm talking about. ME, I can sit and nap at home or in the woods, so... My BiL has around 700 decoys, but doesn't hunt anymore. This seems like a lot of work to me. He says that Indiana isn't really a waterfowl state. Having never shot one, I'd be thrilled with one or two birds, but the way he talks is as if they don't come in hundreds anymore, and this is what he wants. At one time hunting must have been pretty good here. I've seen video of snow geese so thick that they seemed to block the sun. LOL Now, I think even I could hit a couple like this, just maybe not the one I was aiming at. So, is waterfowl a lot of work for the potential harvest here?

It can be. It is a blast. Different than deer hunting, more of a social sport. It helps having guys with your same passion or ones you understand your roll.
It can be frustrating at the same time but that is hunting.
I learned goose hunting around Anderson, Summit Lake & Geist birds. There were lots of birds. My different buds were good about sharing spots, doing scouting, and doing your own thing when needed.
I moved to Montezuma on the Wabash river had tons of birds at times but I had limited abilities to hunt them.
Moved again, near Bedford and have a long way to go for scouting and hunting. I hate going in cold. Scouting is very important to waterfowl hunting. I just didn't have the time to do it correctly. Kids and work have pretty much taken priority over hunting these days. Still love getting oit but it doesn't have to ne every feee minute.
My best tynimiller post :-)

Oh no, this means I'll be the retriever! Someone posted an article last year about the importance of scouting waterfowl. So, this means that they keep a pattern for a few day, yes? It's nice down there in the Bedford area, pretty anyway.

2006 - 2009
Just before they started buying land for the new state land. Actually didn't sell our place until 2014 and we sold it to the town through a FEMA grant. We were right on the river. It flooded into the house about once a decade. I loved it there. Great place just no job after the vx was gone :-)

My fiance always has me drag the sleds because he doesn't want to risk getting too tired and out of breath to call.

I've hunted the same FWA for more than 20 years. Last season participation was up (back to normal), I'm blaming Duck Dynasty on the increase. It seems everyone wants to be a duck hunter now . Since last season was terrible, I'm curious to see the effect it will have on hunter numbers this season. To answer Jon's question. If lugging all of your gear, guns and decoys a half mile to a mile back into the woods (on foot) while wearing a pair of 5mm brushtuff chest waders. Then wading in waste deep swamp to place your decoys and set up. All to shoot on average 3 to 4 ducks. Many don't see the value in it. LOL Now you could take the easy route and use a boat on bigger water. Duck hunting is like a fever. If you get bit, you'll understand. But not all share the passion.

I'd be tickled like a kid at Christmas if I got 3 or 4. I can't walk far without any gear, so I'll have to get a young fella to go with me.

One of our 3/4 mile trips into the swamp last year during early teal season.
That looks great! I'd have to be flown in there.

I have not duck or goose hunted the last two years, due to kids sports and me officiating basketball games every weekend during the season. I actually miss it and will be going this year. Is it alot of work ? Yes. But to me there is still nothing like that flock of geeese doing the death glide into your spread, or the sound of ducks overhead right at first light. Im ready to get back at it !! And the thrill of picking up your bird and finding out its banded Give it a shot Jon Snow you will be hooked Found this classic pic today from Early Goose season. It was in the 90's if i remember right
