Went squirrel hunting today with my nephew. Jumped 6 does going into the woods and this came trotting by about 30 mins later. My squirrel gun happened to be a Savage .17 HMR. It actually went thru & thru the kill zone taking both lungs. The blood that you see in the picture on its right side is the exit hole from the Hornaday 17 grain ballistic tip.

I shoot the exact same thing. I was told that a .17HMR won't pass through. I guess they didn't take into account I would use ballistic tip rounds. It is a blast on bushy tails!!
