This morning my grandson and I were on my shooting range getting set up for him to shoot. We both hear a gobble from my back field which is planted with an alfalfa grass mix. We looked at each other in amazement and both of us asked if the other heard that gobble. We did. In 18 years I have never heard a turkey here. Must have come down from Tipton County!! LOL In addition to that, one of my dogs ran off a nice doe eating clover by one of my ponds. Nice day for wildlife here. Grandson, hadn't shot his .410 for a year. Ended up shooting 75 rounds of birdshot and 5 slugs. I think I rekindled his interest. We talked a lot about turkeys and deer. Good time together. He will be a hunter come deer season and I need to get a nice single shot .20 gauge for turkeys for him.

Get him the 20 gauge now for deer season too. Much better deer guage choice than the .410.
IMO

Well Woody, he graduated up to a 12 gauge today. We used #8 Target loads and he seemed to really enjoy it. Shot around 15 rounds. I explained that slugs and turkey loads will have a heavier recoil, but I have some managed recoil slugs that we will try next weekend. We will see. Forgot to mention that he is 15 years old. I expect that he will do fine. Real, real pleased with his progress and interest. We talked today about starting a camo clothes collection. He liked that a lot. Also talked about bow hunting. His grandmother overheard that conversation and offered up an early Christmas present.

I will Woody. He is a great young man who is so excited about what he learned this weekend. My wife drove him to Edinburgh where his mom met them for the hand off. It is about halfway between our place and Henryville. The entire way he talked about hunting and his relationship with me and how excited he is. This will turn out real good. I am very blessed.
