Will a 22 magnum be sufficient for cyotes? I picked up a new rifle, and thought about going out with my neighbor, but was unsure if it would be enough.

I dropped one in its tracks almost 7 years ago to the day at ~120 yards with my .22 mag. New Years Eve 1999, 120 yards from the driveway at my parents.
As long as you take head shots you'll be fine. Not sure I'd go much past 100 yards on a regular basis, unless you are comfortable with your (and your rifles) capabilities.

I've been thinking about 'yotes and general calling/shooting and while I am inordinately fond of my .357 levergun, I just don't think it has the range or ROF to pop a running 'yote. Anybody use an AR-15? Back when I worked for Uncle I had no problem hitting the 300M popups (No ACOGs then either... . Think an AR would be an appropriate tool?

ironsights,
the .223 is the most popular coyote gun, followed closely by the 22-250. very wide seletion of bullets and powders make reloading a killer load easy. i use 69 Sierra HPBT Match with 26 grns of Varget @ 3000 fps for outstanding accuracy. My gun is a Savage 11 but I have a Colt AR 15 Match that will do it just as good. h.h.

Don't know why a .357 wouldn't work... I've dropped one with a .22 LR pistol (Ruger SS45 model) at 40-50+ yards at a dead run away from me. ;D
Wouldn't make it common practice though!
There's been several 'yotes dispatched with AR's, I'm sure.

There's been several 'yotes dispatched with AR's, I'm sure. Oh, the .357 would work just fine out to about 125yds (mabye 150 if no wind). But it's trajectory rainbow is a tad slow on a fast-moving small critter. Wouldn't hesitate at all to use my M92 on a stationary 'yote, but most of them I've seen are moving and further away than 100yds. That says small & fast bullet to me. Besides, I like to have at least 2 practical uses for any of my guns, and IDPA/NRA gaming with an AR is just one. "Yotes would make it 2.
