Tried to get shots off at two different 'yotes while in the woods Monday with the .22 pistol I had with me. Was ready to draw on one thinking it was a doe coming, then quickly changed plans when I realized what it was! ;D Never had a good, open shot, so they both lived another day.

Killed a few this weekend... saw several more mousing along the road up and down 65. Give or take a mile the Lebanon, Linton, Seymour and Columbus exits all sported mousing coyotes this morning. Saw 11 dead bucks (Horns sawed off each) between Lafayette and Louisville.

I remember seeing 'yotes on the daily drive on I-65... Not every day, but not unusual. Somehow, I DON'T miss that 45 mile drive.

Danf, We can't hunt deer with a .22 cal. pistol, even if season was in.As far as the coyote that little .22 pistol isn't gonna kill one unless you're at point blank range. If you wanna shoot yotes ( and I've shot several) you better get at least a 22/250, 22mag rilfle, 220 swift, 223 etc....That .22 pistol would barely wound him at any more than 20 yards.

Did you guys miss the fact that we can now carry a sidearm while deer hunting in archery season? The sidearm does not have be a legal caliber for deer, as you cannot legally shoot a deer with it. As soon as firearms season started, the .22 got left in the truck... When I said I was "ready to draw on one thinking it was a doe" I meant draw on it with the bow, then I "quickly changed plans" and switched to the pistol... As for a .22 not killing a 'yote, I know it's not ideal, but it WILL do the job. I've dropped a 'yote in its tracks (it was at a dead run away from me) at 50+ yards with Ruger SS45 .22 pistol (whatever that model is). I've also dropped one with a single shot from a .22 mag at ~120 yards. I'd like to have a .223, .223 WSM, or a .22-250, but I don't have one and don't have the money to buy one right now. Got one you'll let me have?

I load my buckmark up with Velocitors, and have killed them at about 60 yrds. Not ideal but I was squirrel hunting and used what I had.

I have been shooting them with a Winchester 22 power point bullet. If works really well but I have not been shooting over 100 yds.
