I'm in the process of opening up some alfalfa field edges that had been taken over by brush honeysuckle. From the edge of the fields I'm working with about 20' - 40' in width and my length is unlimited to as much as I want to clear. At the Expo I bought some Daikon Radish as well as purple top turnips to plant. I started the honeysuckle bush removal a month ago and am still opening up pockets to act as mini food plots. My plan was in mid July hit any weed growth with Roundup, let that growth die off and then till up the soil lightly with the rototiller before putting the seed in the ground.
Would you guys keep the plots separate or mix the radish and turnip seed together before broadcasting it and lightly raking it in?
Part of me wants to keep them separate to see which food source the deer are more attracted to, but I'm open to just mixing them if they do well together.
Thoughts?

I know folks mix the two together, but it might be worth having a couple of spots where they aren't mixed to see if the deer prefer one over the other.
I've read that deer sometimes need a couple of years to figure out the turnips if they haven't been available to them previously.

I tried both several years ago, the deer just nipped the tops off them. Most of them just rotted in the ground, the turnips were big as softballs. Seems for me, corn beans and winter wheat are best choice around here. But you won't know until you try.

It's true it will take a while for deer to figure out brassicas. Once they do though....hold on! I don't think it will make much difference if you mix or separate the seeds. I mix mine, but if you want to plant them separate go ahead. Just don't plant too early. Mid August is prime time for planting them Trophy Paradise Habitat Consulting "Trophies are built from the ground up" m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=852914431431752
