While driving down the road I saw what I thought was some type of animal in the tree along the side of the road. The tree was about 30 to 40 yard off the road way but it was one of two trees in the area. The land there is mostly grass land.
I stopped my truck and backed up to get a better view with the binoculars. It was a female turkey that was trying to roost in a small tree. There are coyotes out in this area so I guess she figured that the tree was a good place to sleep the night away safely.
She got a bit nervous when my truck back up and stopped. Right after I got the binoculars focused properly she flew down to the ground and out of the tree landing in some tall grass and vanished from sight. I'm thinking that the many turkey hunters out in this area have the wildlife moving around trying to escape the hordes of humans running around in the woods.
I enjoy driving around this area observing the wildlife which can include coyotes, Turkeys, bob cats, deer, Weasels or something, beavers, and a few bald eagles. And I know that there are two new frisky raccoons that I've trapped and released out there from my back porch. I'm sure they will love the area where I released them.

She was probably escaping from the racoon that was raiding her nest. I did see a gobbler roost above a road in Kentucky once. Someone else saw him too, because as we were walking across the field to set up on him the next morning a truck drove up to him and shot him off the limb before daylight.
