Almost didn't bring the blind this morning..so glad I changed my mind. Started raining on me half way acrossed the field. 2 new birds showed up yesterday in the field Bec killed hers. I chased them half the day yesterday but they were henned up and never could get within about 75yds. So this morning finds me in the exact same setup as her hunt a week ago. Henned up, responsive or not, they SHOULD come past me at some point. Fingers crossed.
This is the first year I've ever gone to the 4th day of season. Starting to get to me.

Just got back from Misssouri Thursday evening, hunted Indiana Friday morning, birds gobbling everywhere...just henned up. Everytime I called to the gobblers they'd gobble back, then I'd hear a hen calling back to me also...I talked back and forth to the hens, but the only hens I could get called in was three hens by theirselves..they scratched around for an hour and fed down the ridge..looks promising, just have to hit them on the right day when hens start to sit, or catch a lonely gobbler...I'll be back at it Sunday am.

Active morning around me for everything but turkeys. I've only heard a distant gobble or two all morning. Squirrels are fired up. A couple deer fed through. Had a raccoon walk past (thought it was a turkey when I first caught the motion). Wind is starting to pick up and it's looking more like rain. Think I better start walking toward the field and get in the shooting house before I get wet.

Yea I've just been fortunate to have a couple pretty good spots to hunt. Never not killed opening day in KY either and I didn't even get to go this year. Been a rocky start but I've got no one to blame but myself. I pulled the trigger Wednesday morning and should be done. Pretty confident today should be productive if the storms hold off.

First morning out for me. Had rain right after I got to the woods. It just stopped and the radar looks good for a while. Let the hunt begin!

Going to check in now. My scale isn't working at home and curious of the weight. Quik measurements 10.25 and 1.25. Pretty nice bird. Story when I get back home.

Love it when a plan comes together! Wellllllll? Not much of a story really. A couple new long beards moved into the old faithful field yesterday. Setup this morning in nearly the same setup that my daughter killed from last week. Most the time in that field I setup the killer B and hen decoys where I think the birds are coming out and just wait, minimal calling. It's got a pretty high success rate so far.. 2 hens came out early to my left then just after 7 another 5 came out of the same spot right beside me. Sure enough both long beards were right behind them and cut over towards the decoys. The rain really did a number on my fan which may have been why he didn't run in but he was still going, just more cautiously. I never gave them a chance to put on a show and dropped the lead bird at 35 steps. Tried to wait the 2nd bird put but he insisted on walking around, gobbling in range for the next 20min do I threw my bottle behind in the woods and finally made them nervous enough to leave without spooking too bad. A buddy was supposed to go with me this morning to double up but couldn't get off work in time. Hope that other bird sticks around for him.

We are going to have to make you start hunting them with a spear. You make it look too easy! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Congrats!

I had every intention of taking the bow this morning, well both actually. I decided at the last minute to leave it because the walk/pack in there with the vest, blind, decoys, stool, gun,etc just about kills me every time. I have to take a break when I'm carrying a bird out, too. Maybe next year.

Story for yesterday.
We went out for breakfast after a so so morning. Came back pulled into parking spot. Got out walked ten steps. Called and got a response. Told my buddy to sit he's coming. 2 minutes later his season was over. Didn't weigh but he had 11 inch paintbrush beard and well over an inch and a quarter spurs. Noon them birds opened up. We heard no less than ten birds and three were on there way over.

Been out with 2 other buddies near Austin Bottoms property (Little York). They're running a set other end of property 300 yd from me. Wet and thunder. Phone finally dry enough to post. Had 2 gobble off roost 150 yd west of me. Then 2 hens came to my dekes. Pecked around a bit and headed right past me into woods. Had seen nor heard zip from brother Tom then he popped up about 50 yds away and gobbled once. Too thick. Marginal shot. Didn't gamble and gonna wait him out. He's on the hens ta right now!

Well. Tom back out in field about 80 yds west of me. Just some soft purrs now to try and coax him over. Keep hearing noise behind me. Whoa....comes 3 more hens toward me.

Argh. So close. 3 hens right past me. Within 5 yards of me and they head back out to decoys. Wind caught one of my hen decoys and spun it...almost smacked a live hen. They go Cuttin and runnin back to the woods and dont see Tom anywhere. Same time rain again! Then Tom appears again about 50 yds away on hens trail again. Just too thick for that shot!
