I'm impressed. Coyotes have got to be an animal with some of the most liberal hunting rules ever and yet this guy still managed to find a way to break the law.

ive always hated a @#$%#@ trap/fur thief! There used to be quit a few around here. Dave, right at the end of the fur "boom" in the 80's I had about 90% of my conibear 110's stolen. I had set almost 2 miles of a stream and I lost close to 250 traps. It was a stream that was in a populated area, but since it was a city, it wasn't trapped in a LONG time. I talked to the DNR and they said that it was legal to trap there as long as I stayed below the high water mark. (incorporated town that didn't allow trapping but the water was governed by the state as a "blue line" stream). I called the DNR after the theft and they said that there wasn't anything that they could do - they were gone. The thief had to know the outdoors. I had them staked with random pieces of branches - no flags or other identifying marks. That was a great place to trap - the majority of the 'rats were all large/extra large and the population was off the charts. Many had bite marks from fighting with other 'rats. Since the price of furs took a tumble near the end of that year, I never replaced the traps.

$70 reds, $38 coons, $5 possums....and that was on the carcass, not skinned or put up.....remember it well. And boy did it bring out the thieves.

And I also remember the thieves that came with those days. They would steal traps, fur and even know of a couple hounds stolen OFF THE TREE.
