Hello, I have been in the market for an electronic caller for awhile now. I have checked out several models. It seems that all they are is a cheap portable CD player, a small amplified speaker, long speaker wire and a small camo bag. It seems that you cold put one of these together alot cheaper than buying the complete setup. Everyones got a few portable CD players laying around. Any comments or views appreciated. Thanks

Yeah you can build your own caller very easy and be as successful as the high dollor jobs out there on the shelf today. The only thing I know is the sound quality of the tapes and some of the CD's are very fuzzy and just arent worth the money at any price or price savings. The only electronic call that I will refer as the best and only call that produces high quality sounds with results proven time and time again is the Western Rivers MP3 caller. The Extreme Dimention caller just flat sux if you ask me and has low quality at premium price. If your going to buy off the shelf E-caller, do yourself a favor and buy the W.R. MP3... everything else you may as well buy a mouth call and practice.

I agree with IDH, electronic callers usually don't have good sound quality in my experience. Buy some good mouth calls, save money and take the pride in knowing YOU called that critter in!

Sorry IDHMC, In my experience the Western Rivers products are the worst units available on the market. Sound quality, sound selection, volume capabilities and sound loops are worse on the Western Rivers product line than any other offering. Depending on the price range you are shopping in you can find better products both cheaper and more expensive than the WR's. You can make a homemade MP3 player that will outperform the WR.
The Johnny Stewart 612LR is a tape caller that is a great value for the money... the Wildlife Technologies is on the other end of the spectrum both pricewise and effectiveness but is again worth the money if you are serious about the sport.
A decent set of hand calls will kill plenty of coyote and fox if used properly... setups and sound quality are the key to successful predator calling.

I'm thinking about buying a small siren for $40 that will make "yotes" howl and sing when they hear it....might just be the ticket for locating them dogs
