Everyone seems bored and season is over so I thought I would give you some scenarios to think on! ;D Here's the first one... You can see where the roost pond is and where the X is, so let's assume you've done your scouting and have patterned the birds (resident population still of about 200 birds). You can't hunt the "X", but you have gotten permission to hunt a field to try and get you under the birds to try and run "Traffic" on them. The wind is out of the West/Southwest, and it is partly cloudy conditions. Let's assume it is 1st day of our regular season, it is stable weather still and the birds are consistent. Alright this is the setup. Now the question.... What is your setup, where in the field, how many dekes, where to put the blinds, calling strategy, etc.?

OK Matt, how huch driving around did you do when you were down here last September? I will be interested to read the answers to this one. Other than an exact lay out and one less road, that is just like two of the fields I hunt.

I'll play. Around here in Early season, 3 of 5 groups might not even circle. I gave these geese both options considering the wind since its not right on the X. They can half circle and sit on the short side or they can decoy straight down the pipe.

i'd blow that baby up with decoys.... make it look like " The parties over here!!!" .... If the birds are wantin in the middle of the field away from the trees... thats where im settin up in my field as well.. and if the pond is that close.... there not gettin very high... i would bet a lot of the birds are gonna be comin right through the gap in those trees to the north of my field to begin with... and are gonna plan on goin through the gap to the south.... Get Right between the two.... bunch a decoys.....Lots of fast/excited calling.. . Bring some shells! BUT!!.. thats just me.... I definately am no pro

Even though Matt says you can't hunt the X my plan would be to take one of my very cute children to the farmhouse dressed in milking boots, overalls, and a John Deere hat and have them say"my mommy is Dr. Russo" and my daddy likes to milk "bulls". If that doesn't get you permission nothing will.

I would set up in the bottom right conner and sit by the trees and see how it goes from their. 10 to 12 decoys.
