I really thought I'd get into the goose hunting a little more during the next season here in the Central zone. 10point tried his darndest to get me out the last day of last season but I had just had TOO much catching up to do from family hardship in the last several weeks to (SIL house burning and FIL in hospital) to hit the field for several hours....even though I knew exactly where several thousand birds were feeding at (field that my cousin farms). That being said-all of the local ponds are now iced over and I haven't seen any of our resident geese or ducks for the last week. I did see a small flock flying along the Wabash late last week but haven't even seen those in my afternoon varied drives home from work. Besides that the river is pretty well running ice floes which I'm not real thrilled about trying anything over to river hunt. I did see another flock of something on the horizon, that even have been cranes, when I was leaving work last Friday. I started trying to follow them but when I hit our south county line 10 miles later and they were still headed south....yeah I figured they WERE headed south! Sooo....any ideas where I can take the brand new layout blind that I just unpacked? I do have next Monday off (don't get me started on that!!!) so taking a drive, if in order to hunt a couple of birds, may be a real option. I'm fairly new to this waterfowl hunting and still on a BIG learning curve so any and all suggestions would be welcome. TIA!!!!

They are flying on the river in Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland right now. Geese are in the corn fields and the hunters are out in full force. I see guys putting in their boats every morning now for about a week and filling up at the gas stations.

Thanks ML....seeing as how I'm still pretty much a beginner at this I'd probably have to do quite a bit of research before I'd start hitting the Ohio River-however I did kind of wonder if the areas on south of me in Tippecanoe county would be where I'd have to be looking at.

Saw hundreds of geese flying NE of Martinsville yesterday, making a heck of a noise.

Lots of geese (and ducks) passing through southern half of the state. It would be a great time to have a spot south of US 50.

I'd give those guys a call if they have any farm ground! I've got a couple dozen goose shells and some full bodies if you're lookin for somebody to hunt with...I live 1/2 hour north of US 50.

I'm on the plus side of 3000 geese down here right now. I haven't been out on about 5 years so I'm about useless in way of help these days.

Unfortunately this weekend's activities in the great outdoors are going to be significantly curtailed due to the passing of my father in law this morning...he would have been 84 Tues but instead will be buried then. Prayers for the family would be appreciated.
