Illinois gives out harvest pins. You check your deer in online then you go anywhere that sells license and pick up a harvest pin. They have one color for archery and one color for firearm. Really like that and wish Indiana would do something like that.

Looks like maybe there's a few more Illinois hunters that collect those, judging from the plaques and collections I see online. It looks like not too many Hoosiers collect or display their tags. It would be a nice thing for Indiana to do... commemorative pins like Illinois, or perhaps commemorative tags like the tags we've had for years. Those metal tags can't be all that expensive.

I've kept the tags from all the deer that I've shot. Not in a collection per se, but I haven't thrown them out. Now if you ask me to find them, that's a different story! I have somewhere at least one older one from Wisconsin that has a sort of pressed together ball on the end where the tag locked together.
Even with the new tele-check, I made it a point to take at least one deer in to get it checked manually per year to get a metal tag.
I like the display! I wish I had done something like that, plus written on the tag with the information about what deer the tag was associated with, and where it was taken. What do the different colored tags signify during the same year?
I havent' looked recently, but do the tags from Indiana have the year embossed in them? I know that the ones from Wisconsin did/do.

[SNIP] What do the different colored tags signify during the same year? I havent' looked recently, but do the tags from Indiana have the year embossed in them? I know that the ones from Wisconsin did/do. [SNIP] A couple of the tags that don't match each year's color are just odd-duck Indiana tags from the same year that were just a different color for some reason. The majority of the silver tags that look out-of-place though are actually Wisconsin tags. The Indiana tags just have "DNR F&W' on them and the number... no year. I don't see a year on any of the WI tags either.
