I favor the idea, if left to me they would be screened upon receipt of their application for benefits, then randomly until they exited the system.

Expense has been a big reason I hear that it isn't practical. Temporary employment agencies do it every day. They cost the applicant $10 per test. If you want a job, in this case welfare, you pay the $10. If you pass a random test, the state pays the $10.
Obviously no system is perfect, but drug testing should be a part of it.

If I have to pass a test for work where part of my wages (either via taxes or part of the employer contributions) go to pay for their welfare $ then it's only fair that they have to pass the same tests that I have to pass to stay employeed.
But, since I'm self employeed now I don't have to pass the pee test even tho I could.

Not only those on welfare should be required to pee in a cup but every elected official from congress up to the POUS should be random tested. I bet a 1/3 would not pass a standard drug test and over half would fail a random breathalizer. They are running the most powerful country on earth. I bet we never see these test.

I'd add that if they failed 2x they were relieved of their position and they lost any and all benefits too.

I also agree with drug testing of every politician!!! After all they are also on a form of welfare-they are (supposedly) working on our dime and looking out for our interests (again supposedly)!!

I believe it was a member of the Evansville City Council who brought up having city elected officials tested. The council did not pass it.
