I know that you are THE osage outlaw, so I have a question for you (on anyone else who wants to chime in):
I was out this morning and came across an Osage that had been blown over but was still growing new branches. One of the branches, which is now in my garage, is a little over 6' long, 3" at one end and about 1 3/4" at the other. It is pretty straight.
What do I need to do to get it drying out properly?
I appreciate any input.

Sorry I didn't see this post sooner. You need to seal the ends with glue, shellac, polyurethane, or paint. You can let it dry like that or you can try to split it in half. If you split it, you might want to put a couple of small spacers between the two halves and tie them back together. As they dry they can warp or take to much reflex. Post a picture of it if you can.

I'll try to post a pic later on. Sounds like I did the right thing. I had a buck of old paint so I covered it pretty liberally and it's drying in the garage.
Most all of my bows are board bows. I do have one from a maple sapling that turned out pretty good. I hope to do more with staves in the future.
I do peruse Primitive Archer and Trad Gang regularly. Lot of good info on those sites.
Thanks for your response.
