Well, I am off in the morning to head down to visit a buddy of mine and do some snow goose hunting. He has a field that has about 10,000 sitting in it now, hope they will be there by afternoon. I will post up some pictures when I get back.

Well, my weekend started off bad. I left without my camera, video camera, and all of my pain pills and muscle relaxers for my back. The drive,6 hrs. sucked for my back. But I made it, we jumped about 3000 snows in a field Sat. afternoon, dropped 37 birds, 6 of them out ran us, man those birds can run, and when it is muddy, you don't stand a chance. This morning, we hunted a field that was holding around 40000 birds, man that was some fun shooting, we ended up with 48 birds and at least a dozen ran off, good food for the coyotes. I went and bought a disposible camera, took some pictures, ,hope the rain does not ruin the camera so I can try and post some pics. Will hunt this afternoon, and in the morning, then hed home. Birds are really starting to bunch up down here. Will keep you posted.

It doesn't sound like good hunting to me it sounds like (want and waste) about 1/5 of what you shot got away crippled.

By the way I just noticed you support DU,WATERFOWL USA,and DELTA wasting birds like that we need alot of supporters.

I guess not everyone is an Anne Oakley! ;D ;D If you have ever did a sneak job on snow geese in a flock that size, you are going to have cripples like that, at least everyone I know that hunts snow geese like that does. We were not decoying them, and when you jump 3000-5000 geese at one time, you will have cripples. And unless you can outrun a turkey in mud, they are going to get away, even with a dog. And yes I support all of the above, what does that have to do with not getting all of the cripples, when you try and find them, they are long gone. I am just not a perfect shooter I guess like some people are. ;D We did make the attempt to retreive all the birds we shot and knocked down. Have you ever lost a cripple?

I'm glad you got what you could and made an attempt for all of them. I think we forget something here..... it is unlimited shooting!!!!!!!! The snow goose population is WAY out of control and needs to be controlled, so shoot all you can!!!!! By the way.... DU, Delta, all of the groups, this is the policy right now and what needs to be done!!! The population needs to be reduced, they are presently destroying their nesting habitat, the tundra is rapidly being permanently destroyed by these things!!!

To follow up what Matt said it is absolutely essential that the snow goose population is brought into check. If a few cripples get away so be it - This kind of hunting is ALOT different than regular waterfowling. There are no plugs required, shooting after sunset, use of e-callers and other rule changes.

...however we should continue to respect the resource.
A lot of guys do jump shoot or sneak snows, I won't, but it doesn't mean that Duckmaster is wrong for doing it. Yes we do need to knock down the Snow population and there will be times that we have some sail off or run off. As long as we make an honest effort to retrieve our game there should be no problem.

I love hunting snowgeese over decoys. I had to do a few sneaks on cripples, but that is all I have done. As long as the sneaking is done w/out trespassing I don't have a problem w/it. I just don't care to try it. Send those birds up north, I'm going after them next week. I hope your pictures turn out. I like to see them.

and as we read from Duckmaster he did everything he could to retrieve all birds he downed. He did his part as best he could. Can't wait to see your pictures!

I agree. The whole idea of this season is to reduce the number of snow geese. As long as you make a effort, then thats all that is asked and required. I'm heading to Arkansas this Friday to do the same thing. Were jump shooting as well.

I wonder if the persons who shot the PASSENGER PIGEON into extinction thought they were doing the world a favor because you know they said there were so many of them at one time they blackened the skies.Have I ever lost a cripple ,you bet I have. But I'll tell this much I have never lost 1/5 of my birds in 2 days of hunting let alone 56 years of hunting. Now I realize you didn't set the seasons or the limits or the rules somebody else did that for you, all you have to do is work within that framework. The way you go about doing that distinguishes the difference between a true sportsman or a meat hungry cold blooded killer.

featherduster, your ignorance astounds me! ;D I am a natural born killer I won't get into a ping pong match with you. I was allways taught , if you can't say something nice about somebody, then don't say it at all. I have been hunting for 29 years, been brought the right way, so please don't bash my thread. If you do not like what someone posts on here, then do not reply and show everyone how non-intelligant you are. Add your daily totals up for the day and through in your cripples that sailed away, and the ones you did not find in that day, bet your ratio is up there pal. Read up on the snow goose populations, how they are destroying the tundra up in the breeding grounds, how they wipe out farmers fields in a matter of a couple of days, how they find hundreds of snow geese dead in a field because of disease, they need to be controlled, when the Feds feel the numbers are getting in control, they will change the seasons. It is not like when they had punt guns, and market hunters and no control over the limits of daily number of birds that were harvested.
