Hi guys, I wrote a column and put together a fun video for The Indianapolis Star showing folks why we do what we do. Please give it a read and a share on social media. I'm breaking some new ground at The Star, so please let my bosses know that this sort of reporting is appreciated by sharing far and wide. www.indystar.com/story/news/2014/11/19/public-lands-duck-hunter-insane/19292937/Ryan Sabalow Indianapolis Star

Great story , Thank you for sharing it . Your right there is no true way to explain why we hunt . I'm NOT from a hunting family . Ok my Father did some hunting , Pigeons , rabbit and sparrows during the Depression . but he stopped hunting when us kids were born . All I knew as I got older that I wanted to hunt . Again THANK YOU for that great story .

Great story Ryan. There is nothing like the sunrise over a marsh from a duck blind.

Glad I'm not the only one who can't fall asleep when I am supposed to get to bed early because we have to wake up at 3 am.

Great story Ryan. There is nothing like the sunrise over a marsh from a duck blind. Amen to that. Sunrise and dawn on the lake from a duck blind or boat is fantastic. Getting up at 3 am sucks though. LOL Especially if you don't get to bed early the night before. <------ That's me

One stinkin' mallard and shins bruised almost bloody. That's all I got this morning after wakin' up at 2 again to head to Goose Pond, which had two-inches of ice on the water in some places. Oh well. Still better than mowing the lawn, right?

Still better than mowing the lawn, right? I have got to find time to get back into waterfowl hunting. I miss the sound of wings in the mornings, and you need some private ponds to shoot.

I have never done waterfowl, so fun to see your perspective on it. I've liked your stuff ever since your take your child hunting article. Our situation is different as I had never hunted before, my son was the one that started all this, but I could relate to what you wrote.
I would imagine work like this is outside of the "norm" for a newspaper like the Star. But everything I have read was really well done, so I hope its catching some good attention. I will do my part and get to sharing!
