Yesterday while dressing my deer I was treated to a grand passage of sorts, there were numerous large flocks of ducks southbound, this went on for at least 2 hours in the morning. These birds were high and were probably mallards.

That is good to hear. Down south they really haven't started migrating this way yet. All the mallards we have gotten so far were pretty educated and we had to work hard to get them in the decoys. We are just now starting to see some divers in the area, quite a few wood ducks still hanging around as well.

The southern part of the state should see ducks shortly. With the cold temps up here, the smaller ponds are going to be frozen solid in a day, with the larger lakes close behind if the wind lays down.

I was on a 2 acre farm pond today putting in a winter aeration system. The pond had 1" of ice on most of it. Up in Minnesota, they have 3" of ice on the ponds. The ducks are running out of real estate pretty quick with this cold snap!

While eating dinner tonight at the local deli I noticed two big flocks/flights of ducks as it started to get dark. I guess the cold snap sent them down to Southern IN finally.
