I'm not trying to count my chickens before they hatch. But what is needed for a shoulder mount.

First, kill a deer. Sorry, couldn't resist. You will need to cape it out. If you don't know how to, your processor does. I have my processor cape mine for me. You will need to be careful when you field dress your deer not to cut too high up the brisket. I made that mistake on the first buck I had mounted and the taxi had to do a little repair sewing to cover my mistake.

If you can take deer to taxi and have them cape it and cut head off!!!!

Don't split the rib cage.... Whatever you do!!! If you can take deer to taxi and have them cape it and cut head off!!!! Most, if not all, taxidermists will skin and cape your deer if you are having it mounted.. Which mount depends on the deer..and the rack.. I've got them from sneak to full upright.

The type of mount you choose also has to do with the height of your ceiling.

If you know which taxi you are going to use, consult with him as to what to do after the kill. Trust me, he will appreciate you asking.

My taxidermist asked me to measure the neck after caping. Three measurements; one just above the shoulder, mid-neck, and where you cut it off. He said he could meaure the skin for those measurements, but measuring the neck would give him more precise numbers (and be easier on him).

Just skin the deer all the way up to the neck, ring the legs and pull leg through skin, cut head off and take it to them..pretty simple..keep the cape cool don't let the temps where you keep it get above 38 degrees if possible..most times I skin them adn take to taxidermist immediately.
