Well we were hunting in the northern part of South Africa just north of a little "town" called Mogwadi. We were hunting with Zulani Safaris. Was my and Mindys first trip and 3rd year in a row that my parents had been. It was the ultimate experience and Gordon Brace, the owner and guide is truly the most amazing person I have ever met and I've got a few miles on me! lol
Of the critters we took on the 7 day hunt our warthogs were the only thing we didn't score, didn't bother even measuring due to the freak chance we both manage to shoot the rare ones that had busted tusks! though on the bragging side Mine had pretty nice tusks considering it's a sow!! though I have to give it to Mindy, when she shot hers it went about 6' vertical and bucked like a rodeo bull! Swore I had my gopro running but I was sadly mistaken on that! But that hog left a lasting impression on her.. she got scope bit!
My Impala went Gold medal (1/4" shy of Roland Ward)
Mindy's Impala went Silver medal
Then Both mine and my moms Wildabeasts went gold. (Mine just 1/8" shy of Rolland Ward.. UGHHHH) Mom's didn't score as much on the horn length, but what put it up into Gold medal was the HUGE bosses on him!
The Gemsbok (oryx) that I shot within a couple hours of getting there on the first day scored out Silver Medal. have to say it is probably my favorite between the horns and the markings!
the next day while the girls were both in town at the local Dr. getting stitches from both of them getting scope bit within a half hour of each other, we went after the "grey ghost".. in the process dad manage to break 4 ribs and toughed it out and then finally got to bag his Gold Medal Kudu! Best meat I have ever ate!!
All of the critters that me and Mindy had shot was using a Remington 700 in the .358 Hoosier with Barnes 200Gr. trip core solids. Took everything down in one shot quick.. Gordon was amazed at how it took the wildabeast down in about 50yds with only one shot. They say those are about the toughest to get down. The only one that made any significant distance was the Oryx.. (shot about 2 inches high), ran a couple hundred yards, but man they haul like a freight train when they go! the wildabeast and kudu my parents took were both with Remington 700 ,300win mag. Not sure exactly what bullet he had loaded in it.
The worst part now is waiting a year to get them back!

thanks! It's pretty well the perfect round for all the game out there! My parents have used it all 3 years they have gone down there and our first. But I know of several other people that have taken their Hoosiers out there on even bigger game than what we were shooting. Also that I know of it's been used on Bear, Moose, Elk and caribou all with excellent results as well. It really got my attention when I shot my Wildabeast, about 40 yards out it ran about 70 yards and piled up. The guide was estatic. He said it's common that you have to get a couple rounds in them and track miles. He told me about one that had took 15 good shots with a 300 WM and still covered like 11 miles over 2 days before they finally got it down! There's a reason they call them "Mr Blue" The only Animal that they nickname "Mr." out of respect of how tough they are. Just for fun he had me track it after the shot. They were getting a kick out of me blood trailing it paranoid as hell I was going to get charged! lol Whole other ball game Down there.. the critters there want to kill you as bad or more so than you want to kill them, and they are well capable of it too!

If not able to make this Gordon will be setup at the Indy Boat travel show! Irishhunter, I'm not totally sure just yet what the prices are this year but I am sure they are not far off what they were. on our trip it was right at $4,900 for the 7 day 5 animal package. Was $1,750 PP round trip plane ticket. Awesome part with Gordon is that you can bring your wife at no extra cost other than their plane ticket. And they can shoot off of your package. He also has prices for the different animals that you can add on and trade around for comparable prices. and we figured a few hundred towards tipping the hands and the ladies that take care of everything at the house. all that included ground to and from the local airport, lodging there on the property, fresh meals awesome meals, laundry done etc..
