Not exactly gear, but I thought I'd post this here anyways. If you don't already use Nixle, I recommend signing up for it. Free service (not sure about texting rates) for any county or state agency set up with an emergency notification service. I set up my county and surrounding counties plus the INDNR Law Enforcement Division & State Police districts. All you need is a phone number or e-mail to sign up. It will alert you about anything from severe weather alerts to missing / exploited persons to fish and game violations. Below is a link. local.nixle.com/

Can I pick and choose which alerts I want? The only reason I don't have a weather radio as it sometimes blares off every ten minutes or so when here is a "thunder storm watch/warning".

Yep, you can pick anything from weather alerts to pubic information messages to traffic accidents. Just a toggle of what you do and don't want alerts for
