Maybe with the push for taking more deer you will get an assistant, maybe even one of your boys.

"Only licensed and trained" is something I have yet to get a grasp on.

Greetings Ok,the licensed part is nothing more than you are licenced to have rifles, that is the press being stupid about gun ownership again. The trained part, ok remember I once said anyone who has a rifle licence for a deer legal rifle can hunt with the landowners permission, well that is true, there is no law in the uk that says any training is needed to hunt deer. BUT There is and always has been organisations who take it upon themselves to police other people's business and activities. Some like basc, national gatekeepers etc work for us, others are a pain in the butt. So one such organisation started a scheme were as one could take a bit of a test of deer recognition and marksmanship to get a bit of paper to say you had done it, fine that was great. Then part two came about where you had to go out with an accredited witness and harvest three deer doing it all to best practice standards, great but then folk thought there is money in this so now it costs a fortune to get part Two. All this is ok if you want to do it and if you can afford to do it. Problem is now that if any lease or jobs come up it has got to the stage were you must have these papers or you will not have a chance of getting a lease or a job.
I took part one and got grandad rights for part two as everyone in a govt job did, simply because we were the most highly trained in the country, and I still believe we are. But there is no law to say my lads have to be trained to shoot deer if they have permission.
I'm not saying training is a bad thing but I hate seeing people in my opinion robbing working men so as they can get a bit of stalking, I felt that strongly about it that I took my name off there register and would rather have nothing to do with it anymore. Again the papers put the trained bit in to appease the terrified public. Lol Anyone can be good on a test day, but the pro hunter keeps those standards or is out of a job it's that simple. Regards Billy

It sure makes me glad that over here in the U.S., I can buy a firearm anytime I want by simply walking into a store and plopping down the cash. I really wish that you guys in the U.K. could do the same.

Kind of explains a few things, that being unless the average fellow has a fat wallet, the grocery store is the option. Now wonder there is an over abundance of deer. If all the private owners would not allow hunting, maybe things would change, that is unless the government licensed fellows don't have to have permission to hunt. Another area of question, just who can hunt where? Big difference between here and there. Just curious about all the rules across the pond.

Greetings tenring It's very simple over here, you cannot hunt anywhere without the landowners permission. I am a gov stalker and have been for 38yrs but I cannot hunt on ground the gov does not own. You have actually hit the nail on the head my friend, if private estates don't control there deer then we as gov stalkers cannot cope with the population increase every year. If a deer I shoot gets onto private ground, I can go and humanely dispatch it but the carcass then belongs to the land owner( it is a grey area but no one has ever been prosecuted for following a wounded deer) Only place there is no help yourself with permission shooting is gov controlled land. Regards Billy

So if you knew a farmer here and gave you permission, once you had satisfied the police criteria there is nothing to stop you shooting on uk ground

Starting to understand how things are done over there. Maybe, just maybe, if enough land owners got together and complained about the police criteria it might be loosened up a bit to allow the average citizen to enjoy the sport. Convincing the local governments that selling a few hundred thousand hunting license might add to their treasury balance. Who knows ?
