If you called or emailed for a Feb Canada Goose Permit and have not received it, you probably won't, according to a person in the know. DNR did not allocate money for postage, and did not anticipate the expense in mailing. I already got mine via mail, but was told for my buddies that are still waiting that they need to go to a fish and wildlife area and get one in person. They ARE NOT in the mail. Don't mean to cause a stir, but I have 4 friends waiting on the mail, and I'm sure there are many more. I don't blame you if you are sceptical, but if you are still waiting I'd make a call to verify this, as we did.

A friend of mine called last Wed and the guy on the phone told him that he could not get it in the mail in time for it to arrive before season?? Not sure what that was supposed to mean since there was a week and a half to go.. He went to Kingsbury and got it..

Mounds state park didn't have them. Said Fish and Wildlife areas do. For what it was worth, I was told if you haven't got it in the mail yet, you won't.

So what's the penalty for hunting without it? I don't understand why DNR makes such a big deal about free permits other than a way for them to get their surveys to the applicants. It's like the HIP #, you must apply so they can get their survey information. I'm sorry to say but I "THINK" I would be hunting without if I applied in more than sufficient time and it was DNRs fault I wasn't issued one. If they have an over abundance of applicants and they can't get the permits out in time then waive the freaking requirement. I remember the 60s and 70s, this is my rebellious side coming out in me.

Art, Isn't this like the early Sept. season when it first was implemented? Remember ya had to get a permit and check in geese? I ain't arguing, just asking.

Virg..you could very well be correct. I believe the September goose seasons started in the late 70s/early 80s. I didn't move here until January 84 but I don't recall the permit and check in requirement. But then again it was a couple years after my move that I started goose hunting in Indiana.

I am probably not going to hunt this season as it is not open in my county but there is a slight chance I could go next weekend. I was down by Sugar Ridge on Saturday as I was in Southern IN for the weekend so I thought I would stop in and get a permit. They were not open so I still don't have one.

Mounds State Park now has permits. That's what I was told when I checked my birds in today.
