With this bitter cold weather coming what time do you all think the geese will come out on Saturday? I am thinking they will come out later like 10-12.

I think it will depend on how much wind, snow and how much food will be easy to find. I've been out before when it was -15 and the birds came out as soon as the sun got warm to thaw the ground a little so they could peck around easily. But on the other hand I've been out on cloudy -5 days and the birds waited until late in the afternoon and fed like pigs until will after legal hours. People think that geese feed twice a day, I don't always agree with this theory. I think on colder days they eat as much as they can hold and then go back to water to save fat reserves. But this is a topic for debate. Not all birds act the same.

I agree with Honken, on these really nasty days, very cold, they will feed once and sit and reserve fat, now if it were a cold but very sunny day, I would agree with an early flight and feeding 2x a day. So I would go for the 10-12 time on Sat., but be prepared to sit it out all afternoon if nec.!! ;D ;D That's why they call it hunting!!!

About 5 pm. They wait till the warmest time of the day to fly.

I agree on later. If its really cold and nasty or cloudy, I'd plan on a late afternoon hunt.

Forecast says high of 12 with 18 mph winds gusting to 26. Since I am not very confident in my spot maybe I should just stay home. I say that but I bet I will be out sometime during the weekend.

I'm hoping there's a nice wave of migrators ahead of this front that's about to come through. We've lost a lot of our non-local birds over the past week. We need some more feathers in the sky for our Feb season!

Today I watched geese come off a lake starting at 9:10 and finally ending at 11:00. I have no idea how all them birds fit on that place. There were singles and up to 40-50 in a group. Of course 99% went to a non-huntable field. Travis, I bet these are the birds your missing.

Don't start Jack..... I sorta know where you live! Probably are Art...... I've lost track of at least 2,000 birds since last Sunday. No clue where all of them went. I've scouted the past 2 days and I'm not seeing them in any of my normal "haunts." We've barely got enough for a few guys to get a shot off..... hehehe *wink*
