I was down south visiting my family this weekend. Dad and I went after some geese on both Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday we had a flock of 5 come in right at shooting light. We managed to hit one very hard but didn't manage to drop it. We chased it down to a neighboring pond but it and the rest of the flock got away before we could get another shot on it. Dissapointing to lose a bird that way. Sunday we were trying to work a flock of 35 or so. About 1/2 of the birds wanted into our spot and the rest wanted to go somewhere else. They just couldn't make up their minds. While we were messing with them another pair came in so we took them. After we recovered them we noticed that one was a local giant like we see all of the time and the other was a lesser of some sort. Dad shot it so the pics are of him. I've linked to some pics. picasaweb.google.com/mjhountz/11308GoosePhotos/photo#5155332828469713746picasaweb.google.com/mjhountz/11308GoosePhotos/photo#5155332639491152658Local bird is on the right. picasaweb.google.com/mjhountz/11308GoosePhotos/photo#5155332914369059698Suspected lesser or Thanks for any help you can provide on a more positive ID. --hountzmj

I don't know.... that is an awfully big body to be a lesser? I forgot to add that the known local (looks like what we get all the time) weighed in at 9.6 lbs and the "lesser" was 7.0 lbs. --hountzmj

Well that makes sense then.... With that short beak, I'm sure it is a lesser of some sort then, not sure on what subspecies though.
