Still getting the job done! On a fox squirrel today! Just as I was walking into the woods, I heard some cuttin' and just stopped in my tracks as it was nearby. I laid the ole 1914 Marlin model no. 29 on the limb of a maple sapling and seconds later dropped this dude right down on this old junk car: My buddy gave me this gun some years ago and it has just sat back in the gun cabinet: I pulled it out and couldn't get the gun to work. It is a .22 pump rifle with a "trombone action." I got that working and then started on the trigger assembly as shown. She was all gunked up: I got that old rifle working like a charm. And I couldn't help but think of all the history behind that gun! Now for the big question! What kind of old car is that in the first photo? Bonus points (not that they're worth anything) for model and year!

Horse collar = Ford Edsel. I'm not old enough to know whether is a '58, '59, or '60.

I'll let some of you "old hats" hash this one out for sure. The neighboring farmer is pretty sure it was a 1958 Edsel Citation but he wasn't positive on the year. I looked online and it appears he's probably correct based on what's left of this horse collar or "toilet seat" as some called it when they first came out! But for all I know, you could be right stevein...just going on what I was told!

Excellent, I took a squirrel, maybe 2 with my grandfathers LC Smith last season and it has to be pretty close in age to that one. Kind of feels good to be putting one that old back in action doesn't it.

Back in the early 1970's, I bought a Marlin Model 27 pump action in .25 Stevens Long. The rifle was in "fair" but usable condition allowing me to shoot it. Back in the early 1970's you could still find .25 Stevens ammo, made by CIL, but it was pricey. I just bought it because I was curious about some of those early obsolete rimfires, and Bedlands of Sidney, NE had a good price on it. When my source of ammunition dried-up I sold the rifle, for more than I paid for it. I only shot one Fox Squirrel with it and still have around 20 rounds of .25 Stevens cartridges left.
