In the near future I will be getting a trail camera. My only question is how many gigabytes should I get for it. 2 4 8 16 32 or 64. Ill probably ne checking it every two to three weeks.

htown.... IMHO I would just start out with a 2 gig unless you get a very good deal on the larger one's. I just pulled a 2 gig from my trail cam in my urban zone area, it had 1749 pics on it in just over a week and half. When I had it in the computer it said about 75% full. I had the camera on a 3 frame shot by mistake acounting for the large number of pics taken in just a short time. Also if you will be taken any video's with a trail cam you might want to use a specific brand of card, like the Lexar extreme or HD extreme. I just found this out becaused I had purchased a GoPro camera, so I have been investigating what cards to use for that. It is there recomendation to use the Lexar cards, they dont let the video breakup on playback. They are a little more that a standard card tho. Just my 2 cent worth.

Check the specs on the cam that you end up purchasing as they all seem to recommend various different specs on the cards and purchase based on thoat info. IMO as far as GB size, get as large a card as your cam will support. Couple times I have bought what I thought would be plenty big enough and ended up buying a bigger card later. Most recent cam I bought has a time lapse mode on it and with 10mp setting my 16GB cards just are not large enough and I am now shopping for 32GB cards for them. Just my $.02 worth...

Before I throw in the towel and buy another card and or camera. Though I could use more than one set up.
How do I format a 16gb card for my cheap tasco 8mp trail camera. I've tried in the camera and also in my computer. Neither will format it. The computer says it can't complete it. It's a brand new card.
Camera lcd says full when it is in. I went through the camera settings to format it and it will still say full.
Thanks in advance I've looked for other threads using keywords will continue on this thread.

Got the camera working yesterday evening. I bought a micro SD card and adapter slid into camera and hit format.
I guess it doesn't like regular SD cards...
Now to see whom and what and when is using the back 3 acres at my sis in laws.

I bought 5 more sd cards on ebay, all used but paid only 15 bucks for all 5 total. I reformatted all of them on the computer. Takes about 10 minutes per card to erase and reformat. If you buy used be sure to reformat.

Secure Digital High Capacity Cards come in different Sizes and different speeds. Check out : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_cardGet a fast card for video. Check the Read/Write Speeds required on your trail cam and see what the spec's recommend.
