I remember watching men screaming get'em boys and busting out of their blinds knocking those bad boys out of the sky on television. I was hooked... so I threw together a makeshift blind out of metal conduit and stacked sage grass around it. Got my Father and cousin to come out for the first time also that cold fall morning and started making racket with our new calls. We heard that first honk in the distance, a six pack of geese circled three times our hearts pumping with excitement! They came down to the decoys and we screamed get'em! Then feathers went flying, the blind went flying, AND THE SHELLS WENT FLYING! When all was said and done only two geese layed, but what a moment I will never forget!

I'm not a waterfowler but I did go once. A couple friends of mine that was into waterfowling needed a third to get drawn at Hovey Lake so I went with them. We were in a blind out in the lake. The blind was made of metal piping that was anchored in the lake bottom. It was a Sllloooowww day. All of a sudden all the birds on Dry Lake got up and went airborne. Not just a few, but what seemed like thousands. The blind started shaking and at first I though it was Bert shaking it as he is somewhat of a joker. I turned around and looked at him and he was wide eyed and about to exit the blind and get in the boat. Huge bubbles started coming up all over the lake.. This went on for about 15 to 20 seconds.. Only later did we find out that it was an earthquake. Other friends were duck hunting the Wabash and had out their decoys in 2 foot of water. After the earthquake subsided their decoys were on dry land. The Wabash dropped over two feet! See.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Illinois_earthquake.

My first time waterfowling was not too far from Woody's. My father, brother and I went in a flooded field along the Walbash river. We saw ducks and a few geese but no shots fired. I was maybe 9 that would make my brother 6. I still have a photo of that day in my photo album. That was the first day I went with dad, the first day I actually hunted was a few years later at Hovey's we walked what seemed like miles to one of the pits out on the back side of the lake saw tons of geese but they were all way high, no shots fired. As a youngster I went on maybe a couple dozen duck and goose hunts with very few sucsessful days, by sucsessful I mean we got at least one. I stopped hunting them, too much work too cold and me and my brother never got along. I'm almost 40 and we still don't get along but I have started waterfowl hunting again, it's fun if you're dressed right and seeing birds, some days are better than others.

Jump shot mallards bro in law jumped about 200 off a small pond 1 shot 1 dropped and I was just watching the rest. He yelled shoot again but I just couldn't do it.
When I got really hooked was geese locked on a spread out in a field. Now that still gets the blood mooving

My father-in-law took me in Washington state. When the first bird flew in, I was fortunate enough to take the shot and kill it! Been hooked ever since.
