The range was there first and the home builders should have known there would be noise from there.. We are getting shoved out....everywhere..

Really surprised there isn't a push for more outdoor ranges. I know indoor pistol ranges are definitely growing in numbers.

Really surprised there isn't a push for more outdoor ranges. I know indoor pistol ranges are definitely growing in numbers. The reason there isn't a "push" for more outdoor ranges is ......MONEY.......!! Those individuals, who either develop or live in a certain area, once open for shooting; have more money than the average person, who enjoy the shooting sports. Those wealthy individuals, who actually enjoy shooting, usually belong to a shooting club and pay high yearly dues. These clubs are normally restrictive on membership too. One of several reason I moved to Kentucky is I have my own shooting range on my property. Ranges from 25 yards to 300 yards, and it is safe as there are no homes, subdivisions nearby.

I've been a member of the same range for 30 years and I wonder every year if it will be around next year....... As far as the can for shotguns goes...I could see that type of product having some value to shooters @ ranges. If you can keep the noise down a bit, maybe it would help. I doubt it...but maybe.

The range was there first and the home builders should have known there would be noise from there.. We are getting shoved out....everywhere.. The builders know about the noise it is the clueless people buying the houses that can't make the connection. Same goes for those building along an interstate then complain about traffic noise. Or building next to a farm and complaining about smell and the slow farm implements on the roads. A lot of gun clubs were on leased ground and as the old owners pass on the younger generation sell the ground. For clubs that own their property it takes a lot of work to maintain a range and make improvements. The burden usually falls on a small percentage of members. The fear of a stray shot is always there too. The state is doing a good job providing range space up here in NE Indiana with ranges at Roush lake, Tri-County and Pigeon River. More would be great.

My club (Red Brush) is about 2 miles down the road from me and is owned by ALCOA. It is out in the middle of nowhere NOW but the way the Newburgh area is growing a million dollar home sub-division could some day be built on the present farm ground across from the range...then ALCOA might have a PR problem...

When you are under a lease there is no guarantee. Unfortunate.

My Brother-in-law, Jim is a member of the Evansville Westside Sportsmen Club. In recent years the land, neighboring their shooting range, has seen some housing developments. Resident that built home out there have lodges some complaints against the Sportsmen Club, since around 2007. I don't even know if that shooting range is still in operation, or if some negotiations have been made to satisfy both club members and homeowners.
