The way I look at it you showed your ol buddy that spot. And like you said it is public land. However by posting the fact that you killed a limit of mallards and a bonus woodie you just gave some people the idea to go look for all your spots. Be careful who you hunt with and don't post or brag about your success. I learned that lesson the hard way back when I was a Field Editor for Waterfowler.com. Nowadays I'll rarely brag or post pictures for all the squatters to see. It's a shame that people are that way but that's life I guess.

Heck guys...Post your kills and stories.
You don't have to give GPS coordinates with the pics/story.

Rivers are big and long....... Lakes don't have to be named...... field locations could be anywhere. Aside from having a sign in the background, or some distinguishing landmark, it's hard for someone to figure out where the spot is. IMO, 99% of spots that are "stolen" are because of guys that were taken there as a kind gesture, and they went and crapped on the hunter that was nice enough to bring them along...... These spots aren't being stole from posting a pic of a nice decoy spread, or a limit of greenheads being show after a great hunt.

PM me. Thats in my back yard. Funny thing about hunting the river when its out. Most people think that as long as there is water flooded from the river channel into the fields, they can drive their boats where ever they want and hunt, right? WRONG! Once you cross the Ordinary High Water Mark, you are now on PRIVATE PROPERTY and MUST HAVE PERMISSION from the landowner. Wanna know how many guys I check in their boats hunting flooded fields that actually have permission??? VERY FEW, and their hunts are short-lived after that.
Yer buddy sounds like a guy I used to hunt with. Took him and one of his buddies to south Texas with me one year duck hunting. All they wanted to do was shoot a limit in the morning and again in the evening, shove their accidental shovelers in the mud and would only pick up their decoys and then watch my buddy and I round up our 5 or 6 dozen. And, Thats just the tip of the iceberg. Needless to say, I didnt ask them back, but they came back on their own the following year and killed over 200 ducks in 5 days with 4 guys in my holes a week before we came down. They burned up most of the holes I usually hunt. Talk about being hosed, I feel your pain. Those kinda things are what keeps me from taking other guys out when it gets good. You have every right to be angry and it sounds like you handled it better than I would have.

I would not be happy at all. I still post my pictures and stories but almost all my spots are private land and a few of the spots people dont even know they exist so im not real worried about losing my spots to others. I did have a minor problem with someone once but that problem took care of itself.

I have always been of the midset that if someone likes you enough to share their hunting / fishing spot with you then you NEVER and I mean NEVER go there alone without their permission or take anyone else there.
My dad and I have spots that only the two of us go and no one else. If we take pics we take them in the yard at home. If guys ask where we were we will say "A pond in XX County" or "A River in Indiana". That is the only way to be about things. I say the same things if I go with someone else and I am asked about their spot.
I do think we are losing hunters. The problem is that we are losing hunting ground faster. We all have to work to maintain our good image and subsequently our rights.

It's dumbbutts like that that make hard on people like me who have never waterfowled before but would like to go sometime. Danf got his first goose the other day-sure he told me about it and where but I wouldn't ever dream of trying that spot without being invited or being told that I could go there. I have my spots for deer and turkey hunting and only a select few have ever been there and I know that they wouldn't even think about going there unless they asked or I told them they could-even if it was public land!

That guy needs his A.. handed to him on a platter. Personally I think you would be better off being the bigger man and let it go. What the F... is wrong with people? Sometimes I think we (waterfowlers) are our own worst enemy. That's just my oponion. Kevin

Those are the TRUE friends dadfsr. Guys that you can trust, and they trust you in return. Unfortunately a few morons have betrayed guys that once were kind enough to share their spots..... and it takes a ton of trust for those jilted-hunters to ever dream about inviting someone back to a coveted location.

Hey, crows are hard as heck to kill! I think the bottom line is you are either a "giver" or a "taker". Most hunters are givers and will get taken advantage of eventually. Our reward for being good people comes in the long run..

As to this original post..... Honesty is the best policy!!! Let the guy honestly know how you feel about the situation, and that you really don't want to hunt with him again, because of the way he has treated the situation..... either the guy will apologize and straighten up, or you'll know exactly where he stands, and you can cut off that bad hunting relationship! He may just not be thinking, obviously very selfish, but give him a chance to make it right or be done with him. So just tell him, it can be done in a right manner and not in a spiteful or angry manner, and it will go a long way, hopefully for the friendship, but ultimately for you to get it off your chest and not harbor any resentment and anger. EDIT...

I tried to find the ignore option but this forum doesn't seem to have it. You can put a poster's name in it and you never see any of there posts. It's nice to have when you get some one who never adds anything of value.

Sorry dadfsr, I disagree, an IGNORE button would be fabulous. Sure would get pretty lonely for a couple of guys in here, because there posts wouldn't show up on anybodys screen. And you know who you are.

In choosing our locations maybe it is best that "I hunt where I see the most ducks...and the least amount of jacks!"
