Stuck this here since they are a migratory bird, hence more "waterfowl" than "small game".
Who has shot rail in Indiana? With a daily limit of 25 there must be a passel of them SOMEWHERE???
Can't say I've ever even saw one to the best of my knowledge.

Not many people hunt them. Could be 100 per day and the same numbers would be killed. For me it is a target of opportunity when duck hunting a marsh.

Thank you. I'll have to check around. Few natural marshes remain here like in decades past. The escalation of corn prices took care of that but there has to be some.
I'd love to get a decent day of wingshooting again.

Is the meat a dark meat ? what shot size is recommended and does one need to use NON-TOXIC shot to shoot them ? And how would you prepare them for a meal ?

No idea on the meat but all I know on the non toxic is that it wasn't mandated for them last year and haven't heard otherwise. In the chart here in this link there are columns on the right with one of them being non-toxic and species are marked that require such. www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/files/fw-2013_Early_Migratory_Regs.pdfGod Bless
