Does anyone plant anything for doves? We tried for the first time this year. Planted a mix of sunflowers, a little corn,sorghum and several types of millet. Dove proso, Japanese,and browntop. Its not big, only about 3/4 acre. Without anything planted we see quite a few birds so we are hoping this will bring more in.

I was hoping to join this hunt club by me earlier year , so i could see if the club owner could plant some black oil sunflowers for the doves . I'm hoping to join the club in August but it will be way to late to plant anything . What scares me is last year the club only seen a dove or two in the area . During the summer months doves were all over the place , just like the ducks and geese .

I planted about 3 acres of sunflowers and they produce some of the most beautiful plants you have ever seen then came the Yellow Finches.
The Finches ate most of the seeds before dove season ever rolled around that is on the remaining plants that the deer didn't eat.
I have found that unless you plant a very large area such as the state game preserves do it pretty much a waste of time.
What I have done is just mow down the area I intend to hunt and then lightly disk it,the seeds from the weeds and the bare ground will attract them just as well because they come for the seeds and the grit.

the Deer eat my sunflowers as fast as they come up Kill the fescue or what ever disc it more than likly foxtail and ragweed will come up Mow it short in the fall and you will have a dove field to remember and then throw down oats or wheat, disc LIGHTLY and Wa-La a deer field all the same year and if you want to put some clover on after the light disc on the oats and a clover field the next year More bang for your buck that way
