My superintendent sprung a surprise opportunity on me yesterday...I had one day to decide to take it or not...I decided to take it.
This summer, I will spend 3 weeks teaching in Beijing, China. Exciting, but daunting too. Wish me luck. I leave June 27th.

That is a great opportunity. NPR did a piece on how Americans had trouble getting their favorite Chinese food over there.

I've been to China. I don't care much for "real" Chinese food.

Very happy for you. Is the family going too? Unfortunately, no. That's the. Only thing keeping me from being too excited about it so far.

It will probably be harder on them, because you'll be busy. I worked in Puerto Rico for 6 months, but got to come home when I got a chance. The longest away was 1 month. The time seems to go fast.
I sure wouldn't want to do it now ...I love this wife. :-)
Take lots of photos.

Yeah. I've been married 20 years and this will be, by far, the longest stretch away from my wife and certainly my daughter as well. It will be tough.

It's 3 weeks, not 3 months. I'll be back on July 18. Wow, not sure I could do 3 months! LOL

I have a cousin that has been to China a couple of times for work. The first time his passport was stolen, and he had to stay an extra 3 or 4 days to get it replaced. He got back just in time to miss his anniversary. Oops.
His next trip over there he took some pictures of what turned out to be a political protest (I believe he was in Tienanmen Square). He got thrown into the back of a police car, in which he assumed the fetal position. Luckily the guy with him spoke Chinese and he was let go...after all of his pictures were deleted.
LOL-I told him to bring me a rock back, and he did...just so happens he chiseled it out of the Great Wall of China. Ummm...not quite what I meant.
Good luck and educate them well!
