I went down today (Fri.) to film/hunt with the Gibby family. They own Gibby 4 hunting club. They are located about 1/2 mile to a mile outside of the Hovey Lake Refuge down near Mt. Vernon. This was the first time I have gotten to hunt with them and meet them in person. What a great bunch of guys!!! They really have a nice setup down there! They have about 83 acres of prime Wabash River bottom land, they have developed with with levee all around the property and they flood it and control the level, they have at least 3 or 4 different pit style blinds on the property with planted millet, soybeans, etc. that they flood. Anyway I went to film, the previous 2 days they really killed them good!! Well today was kind of a transition day as the rivers are really coming up fast and the backwaters are flooding and drawing the birds. We saw ALOT of birds flying and ended killing 12 for the day, lost a couple of cripples into the soybeans! ;( Again they are great guys, and have a great place to hunt!! I really look forward to working more with these guys! Now some photos of the hunt!
The lodge is a couple of metal containers with a heater, just a place to kick off the boots, change, etc.
Then they take you out on the Argo to your pit blind.
One of the pits, the one they hunted for the day's hunt.
Some of the decoys, they have some nice spreads.
Here is Mr. Gibby (Dad), it's funny they all call each other "Gibby", I have no idea how they keep each other straight when addressing each other! ;D
Here is Jeff the oldest son, what a great guy!!!
The younger son Zach, he got a banded mallard today.
And of course the retriever!!
And the hero shot for the day...
