Met up with hountzmj in the dark this morning.. He drove up to take a pigeon trip. ;D Water was way high and MOVING fast.. DId I mention the water was FREAKIN moving? No other traffic around,, so we left the ramp in search of a calm spot.. Set up behind a small island that was flooded behind it... We arrived about 10 mins before legal time and threw out 6 geese... Doesnt take much at the seasons end,, and you need to try and be different.. Instantly we had birds working.. hountzmj found out real quick that this was for real,, birds were landing before we could get off shots...They just wanted this spot real bad,, tucked back out of the ROARING current. Did I mention the water was FAST? We'll just say,, alot of birds left us,, that should have been invited over fer dinner ;D ;D ;D Not many geese today,, some in the area,, but none interested in us.. But we still had a decent morning's hunt though.. Glad to meet you hountmj,, we'll have to do it again some time...

Just wanted to get on here and thank pigeon publicly for taking me along. I had never been on a water hunt for ducks. It had always been farm pond and fields for me with limited sucess on the ducks.
I had a great time and it was well worth the drive from Warsaw. Pigeon is a good guy and really knows where to find the birds too. We saw a lot of birds and would have had a few more if I had shot better. Maybe I'll get some practice in and shoot better next time.
I had never been on a river hunt before so I don't have much perspective on how it was flowing. But I wouldn't have wanted to step out in to the current from where we were standing. I am sure it would have been a cold swim.
Ok. Thats all for now.
Thanks for the hunt Pigeon!

It got close didn't it Gas Can? The West Fork was about 1 1/2' from coming out!! I think the Wabash and Ohio were getting out down near Evansville, Mt. Vernon.

Yeah 1 river around here was bank full. The other big one was really close to being full. 1 good rain this week would put them out, which is just what we need to start hammering the birds.

Well...what are you calling floodwaters? Completely out of the bank? Cuz the rivers down by you have had plenty of backwater. Just not over the bank.

I crossed over it this afternoon on the way to Illinois. Lots of water in the bottoms. Did not see any waterfowl anywhere though..
