Dan, Im from crown town as well. You hunt all the wildlife areas or you go private style.
Most of the ponds are open down here thats why I figured there would be some open water up there

BY SATURDAY THE GUMZ UNIT AT KANKAKEE SHOULD BE FROZEN OVER HOWEVER SOME BLINDS IN THE K-Y UNIT WILL BE OPEN AND I AM NOT SURE BUT THEY MIGHT START HUNTING TILL DARK THIS WEEKEND. SO IF YOU KNOW WHICH BLINDS HAVE OPEN WATER AND YOU CAN STAND THE COLD YOU COULD HAVE A WILD LATE AFTERNOON SHOOT. THAT IS IF THEY HUNT TILL DARK. THE KANKAKEE RIVER IS RISING SO THAT MIGHT MEAN THAT THERE MIGHT BE SEVERAL GOOD BLINDS THIS WEEKEND.

Grand kank marsh is iced up. The Slough is mixed it depends on how deep the marsh is. I hunt all the wildlife areas mostly and i do a litte private style. START HUNTING TILL DARK THIS WEEKEND and it will be packed see you their. Anyone up north want to hook up Sunday and try to shoot some birds one more time let me know I'm on my own Sunday.

But extreme caution is required!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D PF, The Wabash west of the Wabash is pretty much unhuntable and so is the Mississinewa north of Marion. In my 34 years of Waterfowling I sure in the heck wouldn't be out there on the river(s), but then I ain't a prostaffer! ;D

Not good, but we learned a lot. If you were to hunt ducks just once this year, You better go in the morning.

The KANKAKEE killed 74 birds today. There is some open water in the GUMZ unit but I suspect it will be froze over coming morning. There is good open water in the K-Y unit. friends of mine had great shoots yesterday and again today on private land near the preserve. they reported seeing more geese then in years past.they did have to chainsaw the ice open. I also agree with quackin... this weekend is going to be great.
