Taking a friend out this morning for his second turkey hunt. Due yo scheduling conflicts this is my last chance to try and call him in one. Good luck to all who venture out this morning and best wishes to all the remainder of the season

Good luck to you too. It's my last chance too. Season was too short.

05:31 and no gobbles. Not sure if they are feeling hunting pressure, moved off or what. Actually had to use my thermacell this morning though.

I have my breeder hen set out at 20 yards and a jake standing over her. Calling very sparsely today

06:06 a lone hen crossed the field. Was hoping she was going to get her boyfriend and come back by but hadn't seen her yet or anything else for that matter.

Looks like I'm going in the rain on Friday and/or Saturday. I don't know anyone personally who turkey hunts, so I have been learning as I go. Already learned some valuable lessons. Any advice for hunting in the rain? I have read to setup around field edges. True? Any other tips for rainy weather hunts?

I have learned first hand that field edges are great! Set up a ground blind if you can or have some good rain gear. My box and glass calls don't care for moisture so I stick to mouth calls in the rain

Ground blind for sure and bring a lunch. Rain has little to no effect on how they will react.

I have mainly seen them in the fields with hens strutting around my house. No gobbling at all, but they have been in the fields constantly. They are always in the bean fields before going to roost.
Got to head them off from where they want to be/go and call very little. More like deer hunting now.

Shot a good bird at 6:45. Saw him across the road from the property I was hunting as I drove in about 6:05 (didn't get off work until 5:55) "strutting for the girl" as my boy would say.
I parked and dropped down in the woods and set up on a lane that I figured they would use when they came back to the woods. I didn't figure they would stay in the yard they were in for long, so I just sat and watched them. The hen started heading for a thicket and he didn't follow. I assume she has a nest in there and he knew that.
I let out a few yelps and told him I wanted to party and he told me he was on his way. I ended up moving on back the lane about 40 yards before he got there so that I had more than a 10 yard shot. Killed him at 21 steps.
That's 4 birds for the spring at a total of 57 yards.

Sure is windy and very warm.. Warm? No, it's hot. This is probably my last go at it. A bunch of rain Friday and Saturday and Momma's Day Sunday.. Momma doesn't turkey hunt . .

Got my son out this evening and it was miserable! Hot. Mosquitoes. Hot. To top it off, as soon as we climbed in the blind 10 jakes came out into the field out of range and not interested. Good for next year, but not for today. Pretty sure a gobbler wasn't going to come out with them in the field.
At least I was able to hunt with him a last time this spring.

So I lied.... My buddy called me late last night and asked me to bring him and his son out. We're both tagged out but his 15 tear old isn't. I figured I come out and film for them. Three different birds gobbled this morning and stayed vocal until about an hour ago. We're taking a minute to stretch our legs then back at it. Good luck guys and gals!
