To all of you who got drawn for summit and did not show up today. A total of 4 groups out of 20 something showed up. If your not going to go or take the time to go then dont freaking sign up. The DNR reps that were there were not happy at all. As of 3:30 a whopping 4 birds had been killed. Bad thing is there were thousands of birds there today they just stayed on the water. There was no pressure to get them up and flying. We did manage to get one of the four that were killed today.
Next time give someone who really wants to go a chance dont sign up.

What area did you get to hunt?
That sucks, maybe the DNR will reorganize the hunt and allow standby hunters to fill in.

Or with the lack of interest (no-shows) they'll quit having hunts and oil allot more.

Yea they could do that too. Hope they have enough interest by the property manager and who ever else makes the decisions there to keep the hunts going. We should provide them with some potential solutions as to get a better hunter turnout instead of ing and moaning to how bad it was messed up. Why was the turn out so bad? Weather, notification, restrictions, lack of birds?

I know we got our notification way in advance. Weather was decent partly cloudy windy front moving in. I know one of the sections that did not show, were from New Albany, so why did they put in for it. It should be a draw hunt like the othere and have standby hunters. Which is what a believe they are going to do next year.

We offered our vast Delta Waterfowl Knowledge to them if they needed assistance next year.

Well I guess with special hunts they should really stick with the special seasons where a guy could get a 5 bird limit. I can imagine some guys if onto birds in their own spots would not waste a trip to shoot just 2 geese each while restricted to specific rules of a park hunt. If they could open up ducks as well during regular season I am sure a few more parties would have shown up..
Look how the deer special hunts are run. The deer are a bonus to your regular license limits. Ohterwise do you believe they would have a decent turn out? I doubt it. I would agree a drawing the day of the hunt like some of the refuges like the Kank, willow slough, maybe have a few hunts like they have now but at least half the others should be 100% morning draw.
This was the first season they have ever tried to get a special hunt in the park. We can't really expect it to go flawlessly. I say if no one got hurt, no PR issues with anti's, some harvest it was a good success. Besides there is always room for improvement.

Hopefully, the DNR will realize that the hunt was screwed up from the beginning. They led people to believe that if someone got drawn they could bring other hunters. Then an email was sent saying that nobody could hunt with you, and if you wanted a partner you should reapply and add the names. The hunt was doomed from the beginning for lack of organization. Maybe they have learned from their mistakes for next year.

They should have a daily drawing there. Show up. Put your name(s) on a card. Draw them out of a box/tumbler or whatever. You pick where you want to hunt based on when you get drawn.
