My neighborhood is above the Wabash here in Lafayette. I have a boat but have never taken it out duck hunting yet. It seems like the river always gets high this time of year and that keeps me away. I am a chicken when it comes to being on the river when the water is high. My motor is also old and I am afraid of getting stuck in the cold. I do know the areas around my place pretty well and may try it sometime after deer season if the water lever is right. I did shoot some doves this year off of a sand bar.

If you are not prepared it's best to stay away. I believe there is always huntable areas in all water conditions, but you best be with a person who has experience in that situation and the right gear. Water and cold don't mix well if you can't get out quick.

Never hunted the Wabash. I'd sure like to sometime. I'm sure there are tons of ducks to find when it gets right. It'll take me about 2-2 1/2 hours to get to it. Might just have to try it out this year if i get some good reports from over there.

I am a river junkie.... I hunt all I can find..... No doubt you need to be prepared for any situation on a river,, and you must respect each one... High water is a even bigger respect.... Wabash has treated me well in the past,, up or down,, it has birds....
